Egalitarianism -
What the AEM is Tentatively Asking the Australian People to Agree to

The ideas, percentages, and time frames presented here are negotiable at this point in time, and we are always interested in hearing about any other good ideas.

To Start With...

As a requirement of the existing democratic-capitalist constitution, the AEM must gain an absolute majority in both houses of parliament in order to change the Constitution of Australia.

We are asking for 15 years to install (much of) the AEM's Egalitarian constitution.

After 5 Years

However, after the first 5 years, you will be given the opportunity to reject the AEM's Egalitarian constitution, and return to a democratic-capitalist constitution providing that those who represent the democratic-capitalism win at least 60% of the vote.

After 10 Years

If you read our 'The Democratic and Undemocratic Nature of the AEM's Egalitarian Society' web page, you will see that the AEM strongly disagrees with the contemporary democratic process. However, after 10 years, you will be given the opportunity to vote for the right to democratically elect a (federal) government, just in case you feel that our improved democratic system is unsatisfactory. That is, if over 50% of the voting public vote against the AEM's version of democracy, we will return to the contemporary democratic system. However, if those who represent the contemporary democratic system win, the AEM will not run for government. We don't administer that which we disagree with. As such, the remainder of this contract will only apply if you have voted to stay with the AEM's version of Egalitarianism.

After 15 Years

After 15 years, you will again be given the opportunity to return to democratic-capitalism, or to try something else. This time, it will require 70% of the vote to change the constitution back to what it was, or to something else.

From Then On

However, if more than 30% of the voting population vote against Egalitarianism in this constitutional election (or any other constitutional election to follow), the AEM will regard this as a failure, and be obligated to conduct another constitutional election (i.e. not an election for government) within 5 years.
If 20-30% of the voting population vote against Egalitarianism in any constitutional election, the government will be obligated to conduct constitutional elections again within 10 years.
If
10-20% of the voting population vote against Egalitarianism in any constitutional election, the government will be obligated to conduct constitutional elections again within 20 years.
If less than
10% of the voting population vote against Egalitarianism in any constitutional election, the government will be obligated to conduct constitutional elections again within 25 years.
We think that the clauses mentioned within this paragraph should be included within the contemporary democratic-capitalist constitution (but we know that our current ruling class would never allow us this opportunity to slip away so easily).

If Egalitarianism receives less than 40% of the vote in any constitutional election (and no other constitutional philosophy wins more than 70% of the vote), the Head of State (and the Department of the Head of State) will undertake social research to determine why this is so. The results of this research can lead to several different courses of action, depending upon what the reason(s) is/are for this drop in support. This action can range from doing nothing (if for example, public disapproval is associated with something that the AEM believes is fundamental to Egalitarianism) to the other extreme of changing laws or policies, or allowing the citizens to vote on one or more issues that they are concerned about. And if the government ignores this public dissatisfaction, it risks losing the next constitutional election.

Amendments to the Egalitarian Constitution

Should a government, a Leader of Government, a Head of State, or anybody else wish to make amendments to the Egalitarian constitution in the future (including the re-introduction of the contemporary democratic system), this will require a separate election and 70% of the vote to be passed.

You should remember that the public has never voted for our democratic-capitalist constitution, and even if they did, all of those people who were born into the democratic-capitalist society (which is all of you) have never been, and would never have been given the chance to decide for yourselves (which doesn't sound like the upholders of the democratic-capitalist constitution have much faith in your loyalty to this constitution). Should the AEM manage to become a political party, you will be able to vote to stay with the democratic-capitalist constitution for the first time in history, or you can start saving yourselves, your descendants, your environment, and the world by voting for the AEM. Because of this, you will no longer be able to claim that you are helpless or blameless in regard to the course that our nation follows. If you vote to stay with the contemporary democratic-capitalist constitution, you will be just as much to blame as those bad men in power for our social and environmental disasters (e.g. homelessness, land clearing, addictions, long-term unemployment, property crimes, the over consumption of non-renewable resources, corruption, black markets, etc, etc, etc).
